Retirement from sport can present some unique challenges for sports people. Whether retirement is a planned process or unplanned, some people may experience:

  • anxiety about retirement
  • fear of the unknown
  • a loss of athletic identity
  • a struggle to cope with life away from sport

Research indicates that pre-retirement planning influences the quality of adaptation to retirement. Therefore, planning in advance for some of the psychological challenges is a beneficial process.

This 1-hour workshop is a brief introduction to Retirement Planning for Sport and will cover the following:

  • Identifying psychological challenges
  • Coping strategies for psychological challenges
  • Methods for managing the retirement transition
